Many petrochemical items arrive by sea and need transhipment to the final site. Through the partners in our network we coordinate the lift out of the port, the road leg and, where necessary, the installation with hydraulic gantry directly onto the foundation.
For multi-piece projects, where a new refinery can require dozens of components, we synchronise the deliveries with the construction schedule, so that each piece arrives exactly when the installation team needs it.

Refinery equipment consists of unique pieces that call for tonnage calculations, permits and often transhipment from a port. Here is what you need to know.
Who handles the abnormal load permits and the route survey?
As a freight forwarder, we manage the whole permitting process for abnormal load transport, together with our partner carriers and the road authorities in every country crossed. We run a route survey to check road widths, bridges, roundabouts and height restrictions, so that a large column or reactor reaches the refinery without being held up.
How do you transport a very long, heavy distillation column?
Distillation columns are long pieces, often tens of metres, that cannot be divided without compromising the integrity of the equipment. Through our partner carrier network we coordinate extendable or modular trailers for extra-long loads, with a weight distribution calculation and a dedicated route survey. On critical sections we use, where relevant, SPMT and technical escorts.
What solution do you use for reactors and pressure vessels weighing hundreds of tonnes?
For ultra-heavy reactors, autoclaves and pressure vessels we coordinate hydraulic modular trailers and self-propelled SPMT through the specialist carriers in our network. Every piece gets a precise tonnage calculation and a check on the route's capacity before the transport is confirmed, and at destination we can also provide installation with a hydraulic gantry onto the foundation.
How far in advance should I book the transport of refinery equipment?
We recommend contacting us as early as possible, because heavy lift equipment such as SPMT, modular trailers and route permits all need planning ahead. A dedicated project manager coordinates the deadlines so that the delivery syncs with the site's construction schedule.
Do you need ADR if the equipment holds residues of petroleum products?
Yes, second-hand or relocated equipment retaining hydrocarbon residues can fall under the ADR rules for the transport of dangerous goods. We check the condition of the equipment together with you and, where relevant, we arrange ADR-certified carriers and the accompanying documentation, alongside the abnormal load permits.
Can you deliver the equipment straight from the port to the refinery or site, door-to-door?
Yes, we offer full door-to-door coordination: many modules and process vessels arrive by sea and need transhipment to their final destination. Through the partners in our network we manage the lift out of the port, the road leg and, where necessary, the installation on site, with CMR insurance included throughout the move.
